I finally got around to deleting my Friendster account. There were just so many spams and nonsense going on in there.

My own version of "Touch tree". :P
Till date, the hardest part of my new job scope does not come from having to work in the forest. It comes from people who instead of encouraging me, tells me that the new work scope is tough and not suited for me. :(
I made the decision, so I had better make sure I gain from this phase of my work life.

Creepy crawlers can be hard to take. They run off so fast! But once in a while, they stay really still, which gives me a chance to go upclose and snap shots of them. Monday was a good "photograph creepy crawler" day. We had a spider, a scorpion and a centipede who were perfect models. All them stayed still long enough for me to take shots of them, and also neither did they stung me. Phew.

Hello dude. Thanks for staying reallllllly still.

So I took a photo of its tail, so that I could go back to office to verify if it stings...I feel like a bimbo being so stupid.

I'm not really worried about spiders...

Long-legged centipede.
I almost fell out of my chair when The Hulk exclaimed that it was a long-legged centipede after I showed him the photo. CENTIPEDE!? I was holding my camera near a CENTIPEDE!? Whenever I spot a centipede, I would stay far away from it. But this creature here did not looked like the ones I usually see, so I stupidly held my camera about an inch from it to take macro shots of it.

Guess?
November 15th, 2009

Red, orange, green, yellow and purple. The colours looked right.
Other than the spinach, everything else were roasted veggies (carrots, cherry tomatoes, capsicum, egg plants and potatoes).
I am in some "roasting" phase right now. I would chop up the vegetables and mix with herbs before putting them into the oven. It is really a good way to finish up all the veggies, instead of throwing them away. It really is the sister's fault for saying that she missed roasted potatoes.
My lunchbox meals have changed in a way that I have never expect. Egg plants? Roast potatoes? Sandwich with carrots? I never thought that my lunchbox meals would evolve into all these. My mom has been pretty understanding of my kitchen ventures. Although she doesn't like me to messing in her kitchen, she tolerates it and just keeps nagging at me to clear up the kitchen. Now, how do I prepare an avocado mushy enough to spread on bread?

I was wondering out loud to WQ this morning, on why we were insane enough to wake up early in the morning to torture ourselves running on hilly Rifle Range Road. Morning runs are always so tortorous...
Today was our third time running Rifle Range. It gets mentally easier after a couple of times there. Your body expects the slopes, and you know the distance to the u-turn point. We would chiong up the slopes, and then jog slowly down hill. Chiong up the next uphill again, and jog slowly downhill again.
We also started incorporating some interval trainings into our Rifle Range runs. At the very end of the road, there's a long and steep (gentler than Mt Faber) slope. We would put down our water bottles, and chiong up the slope till we reach a designated end pt (a manhole). After that, it was a slow jog downhill, and we would repeat another set. You know you are getting better if you have more stamina to complete the set. This week's set definitely felt better than last week's.
Since HK marathon is now full, we are really just training for nothing in particular. The legs just need to get out there and run!

Why oh why did I procrastinate signing up!?
:(

Roasted eggplants, tomatoes and onions. With pasta, spinach and feta cheese.
My lunchbox contents were mainly leftovers from yesterday's dinner. I added feta cheese, cherry tomatoes and more feta cheese into the box this morning. It actually tasted nice cold.

Try this out: http://www.poladroid.net/
On a Mac, you drag the desired photo to be converted onto the camera icon. The photo would be "printed" out from the paloroid, and it would slowly "dry", just like a real paloroid. The effects can be adjusted too. Really cool if you ask me.
Have fun.

Now.
I replaced my dead/dried-up cactus with these succulents a couple of months back. I hope they are much hardier would be able to last much longer.

Back then in 2007.

My lunch today.
Ever eaten sandwiches with carrots inside before? Well, I never did till today. I surfed upon a blog entry in which the blogger the made her son a sandwich with carrots and spinach inside, and I thought that I should try it out too. If you are used to eating your carrots raw (like me), you would probably like carrots in your sandwiches too. The sandwich was crunchy and it helped to "bland" the saltiness of the tuna.
My sandwich had tuna, shredded carrots, spinach, lettuce and feta cheese in it. Putting the feta cheese on the tuna prevents the cheese from falling out of the sandwich and I very much prefer spinach to lettuce in my sandwich. Lettuce makes my sandwiches soggy. Spinach does not. Spinach is flat too, which makes the layering of ingredients an easier task.
I still have an avocado in the fridge. Should I mash it up, and make sandwiches with it? Or should I just slice it and mix it as a salad? Or are there other alternatives (other than just eating it as it is)?

Pasta with roasted veggies (carrots, eggplants, tomatoes and spinach) and sausages (for my carnivorous brother).
Need to remember to:
1) Drizzle the veggies with oil before putting them into the oven (I roasted them for around 20mins before I remembered!)
2) Throw in the spinach after I take out the oven pan. I stared at the dish and was wondering why the colour did not looked right. Then it hit me that there was no "green" in the dish.
3) To get riper tomatoes. The ones I used today were not ripe enough.
Will:
1) Add mushrooms and capsicums
2) Use less oil and vinegar
3) Roast the veggies longer
...the next time I prepare this again.
PS: I did not know roasted eggplants could be nice!
By the time I finished preparing and finishing up my dinner, it was almost 9pm. I was so full that I gave up the idea of going for a run. I can't wait for WQ to ORD, then I would have a running buddy who's going to be almost always free to run.1) Drizzle the veggies with oil before putting them into the oven (I roasted them for around 20mins before I remembered!)

With the shift in work station, I feel like a fish out of the water.
I just need abit more time to get the hang of the new "work" though. There's so much MORE plants ID to pick up.

Me? I just enjoy looking at the photos... :)

One of my favorite plants in bloom.

The best shot I could get of a bee. They move ALOT.
After spending quite a while trying to get a nice snap shot of the bees, it hit me that the bees IGNORED me. My camera was pointing only a couple inches away from the bees, there were times when I was holding the flower etc, but the bees just ignored my presence. The point is, why are some people who are so scared of these little creatures, to the extend of wanting to exterminating them the moment they show their presence? If you ignore them, they will ignore you. If you don't want them in your environment, go live in some glass city, where everything is sterilized.
You do not want to hear about the monkeys...

Yes, this is another post on parasitic plants. I am not very sure if different species of parasitic plants have different forms of "invading" the wood. The ones I see feeding on the Swietenia are slightly different from the one I saw on the Eucalyptus branch. I should have noticed the leaves more to see if they are actually different from each other.

Mistletoe fruit
What do you know, this one was fruiting. I had a hard time photographing the fruit on the plant itself, which is one reason why I miss using a Canon...

I "stripped" the fruit!

They are sticky little fellas.
Just some of the things I spotted on my last day in the area. I start anew on Monday.
How prepared am I to run a marathon in February?
Not very.
I need some serious discipline in training...

I miss taking macroshots with my Canon Powershot A700.

Everything into the pot.

Improvised version of a pasta vongole.
The sauce tasted okay, but the pasta was bland. Using fettuccine was a bad choice. I should have stuck in the tubular spaghetti. It was not hard to cook it, but I am not sure if my family is willing to try my cooking anytime soon again though... :P

With JX.
While out with the SEC on saturday, I bumped into JX. Kids grow up real fast. The last time I saw he in 2007, he was around my height. He's almost a head taller than me now.

List of things to do for the next half a year:
1) Run a marathon within 5h30mins in late Feb 2010.
2) Start planting cherry tomatoes in the office. So that once in a while, I had be able to have my lunch off the vines. :P
3) Tidy up my cubicle
4) REVISE my studies!
5) Train for the marathon. I am just so excited about it!

Sleep. I need more sleep. Zzz.
Am thinking of spaghetti vongole.

Clerodendrum before it bloomed...(by the way, this never bloomed).

They wilt fast. :(
On another note, I chanced upon a Singaporean blogger who keeps spiders as pet. How cool is that? She posted lots of beautiful pictures of her spiders, all taken by letting them rest on her hands. Would you do that? Hold a spider in your hand? I would love to try if I ever chance upon a spider in future.
Oh, this reminds me, I have not seen a spider in my cubicle for months.
